Hi, I'm Derek. I'm a Victoria-based programmer. I develop PHP/Java/MySQL web sites and web apps. I believe that web sites should compel great user experience while realizing business goals.

- There are a lot of great programmers out there, so why choose me? I believe I'm unique in terms of my work ethic, my dedication to project principles, and to producing quality work. I'll always go the extra mile to ensure that the project meets specifications and that project stakeholders are satisfied with the end result.
- I have a lot of experience in all aspects of the project life cycle. I believe requirements are an absolute prerequisite to writing code and that testing is a vital yet all too often overlooked step. I'm patient, passionate and a perfectionist about my work. If something isn't working or feeling just right to an end user, I'll make sure to find a way to make it work.

- My specialty is developing PHP web applications using Zend Framework, jQuery, Dojo, Google Closure combined with MySQL. My development paradigm always takes an object-oriented approach which results in applications that are secure, scalable, usable, and portable.
- My applications are always based on usability best practices and conform to web accessibility and markup standards.
- My Background
- I have over 8 years experience developing web applications. I have a bachelor's degree in Information Technology from York University in Toronto Canada where I graduated with distinction. I've worked for, and built custom web applications for, clients in both the academic and private sector. I’ve built event management web applications for entertainment organizations, customized applications for sports associations, and add-on modules for projects using other content management frameworks.
