Hi, I'm Derek. I'm a Canadian-based programmer. I design and develop PHP/Java/MySQL web site and web applications. I believe that web applications should not only achieve business process goals, but should also compel great user experience. I'm always looking for new project opportunities. - I have a lot of experience in all aspects of a project's life cycle. I believe requirements are an absolute prerequisite to writing code and that testing is a vital yet all too often overlooked step. I'm patient, passionate and a perfectionist about my work. If something isn't working or feeling just right to an end user, I'll make sure to find a way to make it work.
- My Skills
- My specialty is developing PHP web sites and web applications using Zend Framework, MODx, jQuery, and Dojo combined with MySQL. My development paradigm always takes an object-oriented approach which results in applications that are secure, scalable, usable, and portable.
- My applications are always based on usability best practices and conform to web accessibility and markup standards. While my main focus is back-end code development, I also do front-end development and front-end design.
- My Background
- I have over 6 years experience developing web applications. I have a bachelor's degree in Information Technology from York University in Toronto Canada where I graduated with distinction. I've worked for, and built custom web applications for, clients in both the academic and private sector. I’ve built event management web applications for entertainment organizations, customized applications for sports associations, and add-on modules for projects using other content management frameworks such as MODx and Wordpress.
